Hello,
I'm Rene Jean Amba
Sculptor and painter
About Me
I was born in 1992 in Ngoro, Cameroon.
I discovered my passion when I was a kid, amazed by the colours and figures in the church of my village. At the early age of 10 years old I did my first pieces. Family and friends agreed I had great talent and a desire to study and acquire knowledge in art. My uncle registered me at Mbalmayo Institute of Artistic Training (IFA) where I was introduced to the artistic world in 2004 and graduated in 2011.
Driven by a strong desire to grow as an artist I left the countryside and flew to Yaoundé, the capital. I started my own art studio Amba-art and I managed to continue my studies in Art History and Sculpture at the University of Yaoundé 1. This period of my live was a loop of work and collaborations with renowned artists from Cameroon which was an opportunity to enrich myself with experience from multiple backgrounds, techniques and the use of multiple materials.
Life and need made me multidisciplinary. Clay and wax, bronze or resin. Plaster, wood, and even welded iron and stone are my colleagues in the workshop. I am grateful that creativity flows without any material limitations.
"The concept comes first, then the material will follow."
I found myself as a figurative-impresionist. The essence of nature, human beings, and everyday life is brought to life by light, colour, texture and movement.
